This bespoke children’s play environment was designed as a miniature indoor village integrated into a private luxury residence. The concept was to create a safe and imaginative space where children can explore, climb, read and play within an architectural environment rather than a traditional toy room.
The design was inspired by the colourful townhouses of Notting Hill, translating the character of these iconic buildings into a playful interior streetscape for children. The façades, balconies and decorative architectural elements create the feeling of a small indoor village.
The playroom combines custom joinery, play structures and integrated storage to create a multi-level experience. The installation includes a raised mezzanine play level with decorative balustrades, a bespoke staircase connecting the play zones, and a safety net bridge that allows children to move between areas above the ground floor.
Several themed elements were incorporated into the design, including a decorative playhouse façade, built-in bookcases and toy storage, a play kitchen and shop area, and an indoor climbing wall with rope and gym features. These elements encourage movement, creativity and exploration while maintaining the aesthetic quality of the interior.
The entire project was created, designed, manufactured and installed by VL Studio in London, combining architectural thinking with bespoke joinery craftsmanship. Every component was custom-built specifically for this project, ensuring that the structure integrates seamlessly with the interior of the home while remaining safe, durable and engaging for children.
Bespoke Luxury Playroom Design
Luxury residential playrooms are increasingly designed as integrated architectural spaces rather than simple toy rooms. Projects like this combine elements of interior architecture, bespoke joinery and play structures to create environments where children can develop imagination, movement and creativity.
Each project is individually designed to suit the architecture of the house, the available space and the lifestyle of the family.
